We start our journey in picturesque Oban. Oban, the pearl of the West Highlands, sits at the foot of the imposing mountains of Lorn. Along winding streets you can walk right along the bay or take the climb to McCaig’s Tower: a Roman amphitheatre folly. In the middle of the fishing town, visit the famous Oban Distillery. From Oban we set sail for Tobermory, which, like Oban, has a whole host of museums, galleries, shops and hotspots. Besides the Tobermory Distillery on Isle of Mull, this region lends itself ideally to nature walks. The nearby Ardnamurchan Distillery, on the other side of the Sound of Mull is also highly recommended. After the necessary whiskies, we set sail for the beautifully located island of Rùm, which is just a little bigger than Terschelling.
Island hopping is the way to explore stunning Scotland. For example, in addition to fantastic scenery, Skye boasts the famous Talisker Distillery, the oldest whisky distillery on the island. Talisker whiskies are famous for their smoky peat flavour. From the distillery, walk along Talisker Bay into the local pub The Old Inn to meet the locals. Prefer to venture further into the countryside? Skye is very mountainous, but well worth a longer walk. Also on Skye is the beautiful coastal town of Portree, which emerges colourfully among the cliffs. Portree is Skye’s largest town, a walhalla for souvenirs.
Besides Rùm and Skye, Harris is well worth a visit by ship. In Tarbert on Harris, try your whisky luck at Harris Distillery – “The Social Distillery”. Besides excellent whiskies, this distillery is known for Isle Of Harris Gin and ‘The Hearach’ Single Malt Whisky. Harris’ wildlife is again Scottish unsurpassed: you can spot iconic species such as mountain hares, otters and red deer here. Last but legally not least, the Isle of Raasay, east of Skye, has ‘the first legal whisky & gin distillery on the Isle of Raasay’ with Raasay Distillery. A distillery that is a household name and looks the same on the outside: like a habitable villa, equipped with all modern conveniences. After island-hopping, we will probably sail on to an anchorage in the estuary of Loch Torridon, an idyllic mooring in the middle of the water.
On Friday, we will sail to Ullapool, where we will kick off our final overnight stay with stories of the week and a whisky dram to finish. On Saturday 13 September, the captain and his crew bid farewell to guests leaving the ship last at 10am
