Itinerary

This sailing and walking trip starts in Oban and ends in Troon. Both places are easily accessible by train from Glasgow.

Oban is a larger regional town and offers plenty of entertainment. From McCaigs Tower, above the town, you have a great view over the harbour, the bay beyond and the Isle of Mull. Along the harbour you will find several fish restaurants and between the station and the ferry terminal you can enjoy freshly prepared shellfish. So it is definitely worth arriving a day earlier.

Scottish beauty everywhere you look

The final route to Troon is very dependent on the wind and current at that time. But with every possible route of this trip, Scotland shows its beautiful islands and spectacular coasts. During the trip we try to divide the sailing and walking as evenly as possible. The captain and the guide always coordinate this with each other.

Despite the fact that the islands show great similarities in geographical terms, we will discover that each island or possible coastal town has its own beauty, depending on its location and the influences of the relentless wind from the ocean. During the trip you will get to know the great diversity in the nature of this Scottish region.

Sound of Mull & Tobermory

Guided by the wind we can get to know the following islands and moorings. After leaving cozy Oban we sail through the Sound of Mull to Tobermory, on the Isle of Mull. Here you can walk to the lighthouse of Tobermory or through Aros nature park. Both walks offer breathtaking views of the coastline of the Ardnamurchan peninsula on the opposite side.

Scottish Island Hopping

On the island of Tiree we go in search of the Ringing Stone and the old shelter Dun Mor Vaul. This is a long walk over flat terrain through peatlands and along beaches.

Via a challenging walk with two views we encounter a completely different nature on the island of Colonsay. Here we pass the ruins of the abandoned village of Riasg Buidhe.

On the island of Islay we have the choice to visit one or more of the famous whisky distilleries, take a walk to the Carraig Fhada Lighthouse and the adjacent Singing Sands or just take the bus to the capital of the island, Bowmore. The visits to the distilleries are on your own, but the guide can explain everything to you.

Mull of Kintyre, Campeltown or off the beaten track?

After visiting Islay, depending on the time available, a visit to the Mull of Kintyre peninsula and the town of Campbeltown can be made. Campbeltown is a lively town and offers the opportunity to make beautiful walks.

Even if the captain and his crew choose a different route to Troon, depending on the weather, the experienced guide present will know where to find excellent walking opportunities, natural beauty and Scottish culture. The trip ends in Troon. From there, there is the opportunity to take the train home or perhaps to your new destination in Scotland.
